A serial killer is a person who has killed three or more people within a month of each other. Their motivation for killing is usually based on psychological issues. (Sanmartín,2001). In the United States, the most reported serial killers are lower-middle-class white males, usually in their twenties and thirties (Skrapec, 2001). Serial killers are often liars. They have no sense of remorse or guilt. Most of the time they are not in a serious relationship or have an emotional obsession with any person other than their victims. Most famous serial killers are: Robert Pickton, Charles Manson, Anthony Sowell, Ted Bundy, The Zodiac Killer, The Green River Killer and The BTK killer. (Sanmartín,2001). Often the women were never even seen as suspects. The Zodiac Killer was a serial killer of the late 1960s and early 1970s. The identification of the Zodiac Killer has never been known. The Zodiac Killer was most famous for killing couples in their car at night. He began his killing spree on October 30, 1966 in San Francisco with his first victim, eighteen-year-old Cheri Jo Bates. Cheri's throat was cut so deeply that it nearly decapitated her. On November 29, 1966, Riverside police received a copy of an anonymous letter in the mail. This letter taunted the police about the murder of Cheri Jo Bates and how it wouldn't be the last. (Wilbur R. Miller, 2012) This was his way of being in control and making his voice heard. Only a few months later he kept his promise that there would be more deaths. The Zodiac Killer killed a young couple, David Faraday and Betty Jensen, in Vallejo, California. David was killed by a shot to the head and Betty was shot five times three meters away from the car. The police suspected Arthur Leigh Allen, a child molester, who almost perfectly matched the description of the Zodiac Killer, but there was no incriminating evidence, so he was never charged. The Zodiac Killer was suspected of killing 2,500 people during his killing spree and was never caught. The reason the Zodiac Killer killed was that once he killed his victims, they would become his slaves in the afterlife. He considered himself a “God,” omnipotent and omniscient. (Wilbur R. The way a child is raised can affect their mental state as an adult, as demonstrated by the story of Nannie Doss. Since we never caught the Zodiac Killer, we cannot compare their childhood, but in the psychological profile of the Zodiac Killer grew up in a violent home. A person can also become a psychopath/serial killer due to a traumatic brain injury. As you can see, a serial killer can be born or raised in cold blood
