One in three women will experience domestic violence during her lifetime (ncadv.org). Statistically, if a child grew up in a home with domestic violence, they are more likely to be in an abusive relationship later in life. The definition of abuse and criminal conviction is touching another person in a rude, insolent, or angry manner under Wyoming Statute 6-2-501 on Assault and Battery. For some women the cycle of life is abuse that involves more than just a daily beating. These women are being stripped of simple freedoms, which is a control tactic on the part of their abuser. We have some freedoms that most of us expect and don't appreciate in our lives. These women are not afforded the freedoms that most of us enjoy. Most of these women suffer financial and emotional abuse, and their medical needs are neglected. There is a client I meet with regularly to help me complete the Allstate Financial Empowerment Moving Ahead curriculum. This curriculum provides knowledge and skills for financial security and economic independence, which helps empower survivors or those seeking to escape domestic violence. The Allstate Foundation has partnered with the National Network to End Domestic Violence, Inc. to educate survivors, victim advocates and the public. During many of these contexts, my client would tell me how she had been abused and left homeless because her abuser had actually signed documents to put the home mortgage in her name without her knowledge. Many of these women are told to listen and not ask questions because they don't deserve anything. She didn't realize what had happened until it was too late. She didn't even realize he had her name on a bill until...halfway through the paper...a chance there was less. Victims would be more likely to suffer fewer beatings, no financial or emotional abuse, and the ability to receive medical care. Unfortunately, this healthy and happy environment is one that most victims will never enjoy until everyone is educated on all aspects of domestic violence. Natural news. Mike Adams, 2003. Web.
