More than a destination, ultimately, a community is a place where people feel at home and a place where people want to feel safe. The area of community responsibilities includes the duties or obligations of a personality towards the community and embodies cooperation, respect and participation. Thinking goes further, thinking and acting like people with common beliefs regarding shared interests and life. A key responsibility of the community is to vote in elections. Being socially responsible means that people and organizations should behave ethically and with sensitivity towards social, cultural, economic and environmental problems. Commitment to social responsibility helps people, organizations and governments to have a positive impact on development, business and society with a positive contribution to the bottom line. Although the community has responsibilities, an individual has his own responsibilities towards the community. In 1787, Thomas Jefferson, the principal architect of the Declaration of Independence, urged the framers of the Constitution to clearly identify the rights of the people. Jefferson believed that past governments had been harsh and restrictive towards the populace, governed objectionable areas without proper agency, no jurisdictional authority, and had resulted in a reduction or loss of individual rights (US Department of State). Like Jefferson, many members of the Founding Fathers' generation feared the all-encompassing and absolute power of a federal government and called for a Bill of Rights to protect the people and limit the powers of a federal government (learningtogive.org).
