Emollients Emollients are agents that soften and make the skin smoother. They are also called moisturizers. Emollients are used for dry skin or eczema. When a moisturizer is applied to the skin, it covers it with a protective layer that reduces the amount of water loss in the skin and prevents dryness. Emollients also prevent itchy skin and eczema. Are emollients, emulsifiers and lotions polar or non-polar? Most lotions contain oil or other non-polar ingredients. They also contain large amounts of water which is polar. The oil in the lotion is emulsified so that it can be mixed with water. But both ingredients still remain in the lotion which makes it both polar and non-polar. Emulsifiers are used to make non-polar and polar substances miscible with each other. The hydrophilic head interacts with water molecules and the hydrophobic end doesn't interact with water, it interacts with oil. This is why lotions, emulsifiers, and lotions are both polar and non-polar. Emulsifiers Emulsifiers are agents capable of creating emulsions. Making an emulsion means mixing together two liquids that are themselves unable to bond together. They can be stabilized by adding emulsifiers. Emulsifiers have two components, the hydrophilic end likes to be in water and the hydrophobic end likes to be in oil. If oil and water are mixed together, they will eventually separate due to their density, but if an emulsifier is added to the solution, the hydrophilic head would prefer to be in the water and the hydrophobic tail in the oil. Therefore, the liquids will not separate because the two components bind them together. What is a hand lotion? The lotion is… middle of the paper… the lotion moisturizes the skin, it actually coats the skin to keep it hydrated and tricks consumers into thinking the lotion is working. A substitute can be the protein keratin, because it draws moisture to the skin. But this also varies in quality; functional keratin is the best ingredient a lotion should have for dry skin. There are many types of lotions from different companies, deciding whether it is a scam or not will depend on the ingredients used. In my opinion, most lotions are scams because they deceive consumers with all the marketing and chemicals they use. Many of the big companies do not use natural products and chemical substitutes are scams. Since many lotions are not reliable, the option of making your own homemade lotion is always available. In fact this is the best substitute of all lotions and creams.
