I propose that a law could require police officers to confiscate more assault rifles. In past shootings there have been weapons that should not be used by civilians; these weapons should be in the hands of someone who knows how to handle them. In the Colorado movie theater shooting, the shooter used an AK-47. Such a gun should be used by a soldier, and only by a soldier. Weapons with this kind of power are illegal to import, and that should be a reason why people don't use them, but how do they get into the country? Obama has the power to strengthen the Gun Control Act of 1968 so police can confiscate those found, but what's stopping him? To reiterate, another law that could be passed would be to strengthen background checks.
