Barnardos, is an organized pressure group that aims to influence government policies or actions for the benefit of realizing their vision in representing the welfare of children. Pressure groups have been around the UK since the 1960s with approximately over 7,000 associations of various shapes and sizes of pressure group organizations operating in the UK. The ability of how effective a pressure group is is determined by: • Leadership • Organizational capabilities • Mass media • Economic power base • Technical mobilization. Pressure groups have certain responsibilities that they must respect when carrying out their tasks, including basing their criticisms on facts, holding peaceful and lawful meetings, informing local authorities, including the police, before protesting, and the most important responsibility is don't intimidate. This case study will focus on Barnardos as the chosen pressure group. The case study will seek to represent pressure groups with brief background information about Barnardo's and will seek to examine the influences Barnardos has on the public sector. Main bodyDr Thomas John Barnardo, born in Dublin, founded Barnardo's in 1867, and today under the leadership of Martin Narey, Barnardo's is known to be one of the largest charities around, focusing on the welfare of children in the Kingdom United. In 1866, Barnardo arrived in London to train as a doctor, but noticed that London's population was so vast in size that there was unemployment, overcrowding, poverty and disease, particularly in the East End area of London, the poorest area in the UK. Shortly after Barnardo's arrival in London, cholera, a deadly disease, swept through the East End, killing more than 5,500 people, forcing thousands...... half of document ......charges relating to physical force against the removal of pregnant women, which tarnished the organization's reputation but which eventually overcame this accusation, over time.
