Six Sigma as a quality management interventionQuality managementAccording to the American Society for Quality the term Total Quality Management was first used by the US Naval Air Systems Command to describe his management approach to Japanese-style quality improvement. The methods for implementing this approach, however, have their roots in the teachings of leaders such as "Philip B. Crosby, W. Edwards Deming, Armand V. Feigenbaum, Kaoru Ishikawa, and Joseph M. Juran" (ASQ). While the original title fell out of favor in the United States and was redefined as Quality Management, Europe still maintains the original Total Quality Management. According to Total Quality magazine, Quality Management (QM) is a comprehensive and structured approach to organization management. QM seeks to improve the quality of products and services through continuous long-term improvements. Obtained in response to continuous feedback, each company defines the quality of quality for a particular organization based on its individual adherence to established company standards. QM originated in the manufacturing sector and has since been adapted for use in numerous types of organizations. “Quality management requires the company to maintain this standard of quality in all aspects of its business. This requires ensuring that things are done correctly from the start and that defects and waste are eliminated from operations” ( Wikipedia Encyclopedia). Quality management processes are divided into four categories: plan, do, control and act. These four categories are based on the PDCA or PDSA cycle, originally conceived by Walter Shewhart in the 1930s and later adopted by W. Edwards Deming, according to The Clinician's Black Bag for Quality Improvement Tools. In the planning phase, people define what they intended to do. By looking for areas that offer the greatest return for their effort, data is collected and the root cause of the intended change is defined. In the practical phase, an action plan is implemented and the results are measured. The control phase confirms the results by comparing before and after data. This phase allows us to monitor the path that will be taken in the final phase of the action. In the act phase, after reviewing the information obtained in the control phase, a decision is made to modify, abandon the course of action, or re-run the QM process. Six Sigma A process focused on QM is known as Six Sigma. This 35-year process of quality improvement has been successful in many different forms of business, including schools, management and churches. NASA has also seen notable improvements in implementing this process.
