Aslan: the archetypal Savior character Chronicles of Narnia directed by Andrew Adamson is a wonderful story about a group of boys in World War II England. They had to escape London where they go to a house with a wardrobe which took them to a magical world. They are tasked with defeating the "Queen of Narnia" and restoring balance to Narnia. One person in particular, Aslan, follows the archetypal path of the Savior similar to the life of Jesus. These archetypes can be seen through the situations, character development, and symbolism in the film. First, Aslan can be connected to the archetypal path through situations involving the life of Jesus. For example, when Aslan appeared about an hour and twenty minutes into the film. This symbolizes the birth of Jesus Christ. This was said in the Bible in Matthew 1:16 when it says, “to Jacob was born Joseph, the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ.” . Second, when Edmund betrayed Aslan by joining the “Queen of Narnia” army, it was similar to when Judas betrayed Jesus for silver. This is shown in the Bible in Luke 22:2-6 when it says, “Now the Feast of Unleavened Bread, called the Passover, was approaching, 2 and the chief priests and the Allinsons 2 teachers of the law were looking for a way to get rid of Jesus, because they were afraid of the people. 3 Then Satan entered Judas, called Iscariot, one of the Twelve. 4 Judas went to the chief priests and the temple guards and discussed with them how he could betray Jesus. 5 They were delighted and decided to give him money. 6 He agreed and was waiting for the opportunity to hand Jesus over to them when no crowd was present. Finally, when Aslan is sacrificed... in the center of the card... it fits the character's personalities of being dark and mean. Finally, the final battle where good triumphs over evil and the kingdom that good has. This parallels the Heaven vs. Hell situation we have in the Bible, and the eventual last battle that is prophesied to come true in which the good forces of Heaven will triumph over evil and reign for a thousand years. To conclude, we can see throughout the film The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, we can see the Savior archetype of Aslan and how this relates to the biblical and prophetic life of Jesus Christ. This can be seen through the film's situations, the character development of several key characters, and finally the symbolism of several key artifacts that the film can connect to the life of Christ. There are other films that contain the Savior archetype.
