In the workplace, there are multiple races of people: Asian, Latino, African American. This is known as racial diversity. Within these races there are both women and men. This is known as gender diversity. Diversity is a common goal that employers aim for. There are many types of diversity in the workplace, such as racial diversity, age diversity, and diversity involving skills. This range of people, ages and skills make the workplace a more interesting place as people work with different intentions. The most common intention of working among people is money. If a woman and a man do the same job for the same amount of time, it would seem fair that women and men earn the same amount. However, this is not the case. Women, who work alongside men, are paid less than men. This income inequality can lead women to work in other companies. As a result, gender diversity is reduced. To promote gender diversity, income should be equal regardless of gender. Since women have been employed in the workforce for many years, they should be treated equally to men. During the initial phase of hiring women, women were paid differently than men because women were thought to have a primary source of money, usually coming from the woman's husband. By making women work, a secondary amount of money would be earned. The pattern of pay disparity between different gender groups still continues over the years as large companies continue to pay women unequally. The reason may be varied, but it falls along the same lines as the initial reason for income inequality. This income inequality is known as the “gender gap”; men receive more pay than women for the same jobs. If equality is a key principle that is specified in... halfway through the document... of the Union address. Income equality is the best solution to increasing gender diversity in the workplace. If an improvement is made, more women will apply to work in companies that do not discriminate between genders. In the years to come, our hopes of ending pay inequality can only be realized if we start working towards this goal today. Bureau of Labor Statistics, n.d. Web. 4 February 2014.
