Imagine going south to the Promised Land (California), finding a new job that pays a lot and well. Finally having enough food on the table for the whole family to survive and not die of hunger. The ideal American dream for all migrants who hardly survive the Great Depression and the Dust Bowl. John Steinbeck's ultimate goal in writing this phenomenal, very controversial and outrageous novel was to take the reader back in time so that they could experience the lives of migrants suffering during the Great Depression, but also to criticize all the high authorities, in particularly in the agricultural industry, which has mistreated migrants and given them false hope. Steinbeck's clever use of crude but nevertheless interesting vocabulary, fresh and original narration, the portrayal of characters in the novel, and the pacing (fluidity) of the story itself captures the reader's attention.
