He was an excellent general and an influential role model for many people. He led the Patriots in the Revolutionary War and became the first president. He was the brave, courageous, trustworthy George Washington. Throughout our lives, many people have demonstrated that when power is acquired or granted, it is often abused and exploited. However, George Washington was the streak of hope strewn across a world of despair. Before George Washington came to power, King George, the king of Great Britain, had been unjust and cruel to the many citizens of America, which in 1700 was a colony of England. On the other hand, however, many Americans went to war with Great Britain in which General George Washington took power and used strategy and intelligence to defeat Great Britain, even though they had a larger and more powerful navy and army. After eight years of hard battles, the Patriots of America finally achieved separation from Great Britain, which meant freedom for every American citizen. Many believe that without George Washington, the Patriots would not have won the war. Now, fast forward a few years later, when the meetings of the Constitutional Convention ended and it was decided that we would have a republican country, where popular sovereignty would be enforced and the system of checks and balances would be declared in use. After a short time it was unanimously decided that George Washington would become the leader of the United States of America. Even so, he had declared that he would serve only two meager terms of four years each due to his fear that the new country would acquire a horrible leader in the future who would become a king and abuse his power like King George. ways, this indicated that George Washington would be… the center of the card… is the farewell address that served as a guide for future presidents, George Washington demonstrated that power can be used for the good of all. He secured the blessings of freedom and gave every single American the rights they deserve to have and maintain for themselves and future generations. The amount of patriotism he has shown shines through in his actions as president, where he has used his power to help his country prosper. The thing that stands out the most, though, is that he didn't care about power and it didn't matter to him. Abraham Lincoln once stated, “Almost all men can endure adversity, but if you want to test a man's character, give him power.” After gaining power, George Washington's character not only remained intact, but also grew. After his service to the country, he peacefully and willingly resigned the office of President of the United States.
