Topic > Napoleon's return to France - 1027

Napoleon returned to France with only about 10% of his army still alive. He lost most of his soldiers during the Great White Death, which is one of the largest French disasters to date. Since all the coalition allies knew he was in trouble, they decided to follow him and eliminate him while he was down and exhausted. It was then that he decided to surrender and be exiled to the Island of Elba with 1000 guards. Before leaving, however, he promised his men that "... he would return when the flowers were in bloom." And that was a promise that Napoleon kept. When he returned to France he found himself face to face with Marshal Nay, but as an enemy and not as a friend. Marshal Nay had started working for the new king of France, King Louis XVIII and had built one of the best military forces called the Men of the Fifth (which was mainly made up of Napoleon's supporters). Indeed he told the king that he would go and get Napoleon and bring him back to the cage. No, he meets Napoleon in Grenoble with the Men of the Fifth of No. Even though the men of the Fifth were there to take Napoleon back to King Louis XVIII, they threw themselves at Napoleon's feet and welcomed their emperor back. Marshal Nay wanted to surrender by throwing down his sword, but Napoleon told him that he would need all his good generals around him as they marched towards Brussels. Upon hearing that his soldiers were returning under Napoleon, Louis XVIII quickly left France, which was not easy when it was so large. During the march to Brussels, Napoleon, Nay and Grouchy fought Blucher, who was from Prussia, at the Battle of Ligny. They thought they had won but what they didn't know at the time was that Blücher had backed out on purpose. Napoleon, however, noticed how well Blücher fought and wanted to keep an eye on him, so he... middle of paper ......and is captured. Marshal Ney is shot and Grouchy is hanged. The Empire is dissolved and the European countries conquered by Napoleon reclaim their borders. The Congress of Vienna was also re-established. Napoleon tells them that he does not want to return to Elba, that instead he would like to go to America to see Thomas Jefferson and meet the Indians there. The English agree and even put him on a ship. Napoleon sensed that something was wrong but it was too late, they had left him on the island of St. Helena with only two guards. He was basically told to have a good life. Some say he died of stomach cancer and others say it was arsenic in the wallpaper of his one-room house that had started to leak through the walls, either way it was a slow death. This was the end of the great Napoleon Bonaparte, one of the greatest military-minded men ever.
