The Romantic Period in American literature dates back to 1800-1860. It was a time when people were trying to find a distinctive voice. The Romantic period included letters, poems, essays, books, and art. Most authors focus on feelings, which is why it is called the “romantic” period. The authors can be placed in four different groups: the fire poets, the transcendentalists, the American Gothic and the early romantics. The authors of fire appreciated nature. The poems were read aloud around campfires by many different families. This is how they got the name fire-side poets. The most famous poet of the fire poets was Henry Longfellow. Longfellow wrote the poem "Paul Revers Ride". Longfellow's famous poem showed how easy it is to romanticize something. Paul Revere was considered a "hero" because of his involvement in warning people of the war. The poem shared the very essence of the story, but saying that Paul was warning people out of the goodness of his heart is what made it most romantic.
