Poetry can be linked to many different types of individuals, in countless different ways. The poems have been passed down from generation to generation, turning into a new story each time it is passed on. Along with actually changing the poem, things are added or taken away from the original story. Lord Byron was a man who went through many hardships, from his childhood to late adulthood. Byron suffered from disabilities at birth; he grew up with a beaten right foot and suffered the consequences of ridicule and pranks. The humiliation and harassment that Byron experienced growing up is a contributing factor to his sonnets written during his years as a poet. Byron turned to writing to express the emotions he was feeling. In the poem “When We Two Parted,” Byron uses mechanics, imagery, and a main theme to convey the loss of a love and lost innocence to the reader. Byron uses mechanics throughout the poem to expand the reader's understanding of the direct emotions he felt while writing the poem. Poetry for Students states, in the poem “When We Two Parted,” that the poem looks back in time, to when the relationship ended. It also predicts the outcomes of a possible future meeting of the two former lovers (297). Some lines of the poem echo the author's love for his former lover, however there are also numerous mentions of the pain caused by his leave. Poetry for Students also states that the tone in this stanza and throughout the poem is dark and dark (297). Various lines in the poem "When We Two Parted" rhyme, but there is no reliable pattern throughout the poem as one piece. In the first stanza Byron leaves lines one and three (divided and with the heart), lines two and four... in the center of the paper... ken away. Through poetry, Hughes is able to convey to readers the emotions he felt while going through his heartbreak and the loss of his secret love. By writing the poem “When We Two Parted,” Byron creates an atmosphere of sadness and regret for having been involved in a discreet relationship with a woman he inevitably could not trust.
