data collection method was a one-time study presented to the sample truthfully stated as a study of college students and their sexual attitudes and behaviors. Students were given the option to participate or return the blank survey. Although there was no incentive to complete the questionnaire, students were allocated class time. Because this was a one-off survey, there was no pretest or advance exposure to the questions, nor a threat of maturation. The method of administration of the survey has not changed, nor have any changes been made to the questions mentioned. The students who participated were not selected individually: the classes in which they completed the surveys were chosen to capture a variety of majors and collegiate years in the sample population. The immediacy of the investigation ensures that mortality did not influence the study, and because the study did not involve treatment, many more questions about internal validity can be asked
