Outsourced Software Jobs Overseas Information Technology (IT) Overseas outsourcing where one company hires another company overseas to hire some of the Its software-related activities such as data center management, technical support management and software maintenance has become a growing trend today. American technology multinationals, desperate to cut costs, are outsourcing jobs to developing countries that have a large pool of talented human resources for significantly lower wages. IT market research firm Gartner Dataquest 1 says companies that outsource their software jobs see cheap foreign labor as a key to growth in 2003 because of the large pool of highly educated English-speaking workers in countries like India and the Philippines that receive relatively low wages. By the end of 2002, there were at least 14 mega deals with a total value of $28.4 billion compared to nine mega deals in 2001 with a total value of $15.1 billion. Companies are attracted by the savings achieved by hiring a programmer in India who would be paid $2,500 a year, while the same job would require a salary of at least $45,000 in the United States. According to Forrester Research2, the percentage of offshore outsourcing for US IT budgets jumped from 12% in 2000 to 28% in 2003. It also states that approximately 3.3 million US service jobs will move overseas over the next 15 years, led by the IT sector and it is also estimated that companies can save up to 50% by outsourcing abroad. Coca-Cola, for example, already outsources about 15% of its IT work and plans to do even more to reduce costs.
