Feedback influences the amount of time group members spend discussing the topic and could be used to challenge flows. The experiment was conducted and presented to dozens of individuals in large electronic rooms with the survival scenario "Lost in the Desert". Participants were given a list of fifteen objects in which they had to select five that would help them survive. After choosing their items they were asked to enter an assigned chat room and discuss possible choices, they were under no obligation to choose the same item as the other groups. The discussion ensued without anyone knowing which group they were in. This created a disconnect between everyone for a more analytical process. The results indicated that positive feedback leads to more production blocking and less effective decision making. Negative feedback increases the amount of time spent on group discussion. Evidence suggests that groups who receive negative feedback during the decision-making process engage in more argumentation, likely in an effort to bolster their argument in the face of criticism. The use of the devil's defense by a group requires more discussion to reach agreement than is normally necessary.
