The art is very realistic looking among Native Americans. In fact, what we call primitive art are actually symbolic objects from the process of a sacred ceremony. This concept is not easy to understand. Also, this concept by Sam Gill is explained in Native American Religions. Sam Gill shows that Native American art has a different meaning because of its contents than what modern societies consider art. Illiterate people produce objects of beauty through ceremonial and ritual performances that keep the cosmos in order, while modern societies examine these factors. More deeply, the whole concept of art and what art is differs in the world of illiterate societies. This is the first rule to analyze. Furthermore, the objects that Westerners see as art are actually a small piece of a larger puzzle. For natives, the overall puzzle or purpose is to create and stabilize the cosmic order in which they live. It is through this process of rituals and sacred ceremonies to maintain order that beautiful objects are created, but for a greater reason. Don't hang it on the wall or leave a glass case behind; but rather, maintain order and eliminate chaos that could destroy their existence. That said, two illustrations that help us understand the way of thinking is that the Navajo Sand Paintings and Seneca False Mask: two of which are rich in spiritual and cosmic meaning and power. The Navajo Sand Paintings are an example of a sacred symbolic object commonly misinterpreted as nothing more than an artistic piece of primitive art. In reality, beauty is overseen because Navajo sand paintings have more meaning. This so-called "work of art" serves as the main tool, but in... middle of paper... it is not simply about beautiful objects to display, but rather about the true meaning of these objects on a larger scale, or in its entire content, which keeps the cosmos unchanged, it is a difficult point to make clearly. Sam Gill does a great job explaining these points through examples like Navajo sand paintings and the false Seneca mask (and many others). These objects created by non-literate societies are indeed beautiful, but the reason behind its creation and the process of its creation is also beautiful. The entire content these objects are found in is beautiful and it is amazing how sand paintings and masks help maintain cosmic order. Therefore, these rituals that produce objects of beauty make the Native American reality and when we understand this, then we can begin to understand the art, or the remaining pieces of the rituals, in their entirety..
