Wind turbines: why have they caused so much controversy in Puerto Rico? As the Law of Conservation states, energy can neither be created nor destroyed (The Secret Lives of Energy). This means that you need to use a power source to generate the energy you need. It is well known that the pollution caused by the use of fossil fuels over time is leading society to live in a contaminated world. Furthermore, the cost of using fossil fuels is increasing and becoming too expensive, forcing people to find alternative ways to pay less for energy use. Fossil fuel use has increased over time to the point where remaining reservoirs have declined by a large margin. On the other hand, renewable energy is seeing a boom in its usage and demand for various reasons. Even though renewable energy is so important for the environment, it has one major drawback. According to the website Renewables Talk, energy sources such as wind and sunlight are intermittent, meaning they are not always present. For this reason they must be combined with other storage technologies, such as batteries, to work efficiently and provide energy when the source is practically non-existent at the moment (Haluzan). Around the world, wind turbines are in high demand and are receiving support from society. Wind turbines use wind energy, the same as wind energy, to generate power. Wind energy is the world's cleanest source of electricity generation because it causes no pollution or greenhouse gas emissions that could harm the environment (World Changing: A User's Guide for the 21st Century, 174). Even if the wind is intermittent, there will always be some amount of wind energy during the day. ...... half of the paper ...... making the project take longer than expected. With Bacardi it was a different story. The project was well planned and gained community support. This was a pilot project for a more eco-friendly approach on the island. Support from Bacardi, Aspenall Energies and government agencies led to the development of the project without major obstacles. Wind turbine projects are starting to boom around the world, as renewable energy is essential to the well-being of the planet. With community involvement and good planning as in the case of Bacardi, these projects can be implemented seamlessly. The Santa Isabel wind farm can be taken as a model on what to improve in the next project to avoid any obstacles to the development of another project. Improvements can be made using the Bacardi project to have the smoothest process possible.
