"Rashomon" by Akira Kurosawa Numerous characters show different accounts of a particular event, and all claim to have the story straight. To begin with, a woodcutter whose name is unknown is in the forest when he comes across a woman's hat, a man's hat, a piece of rope, a red-lined amulet case and finally a corpse in the bush. Seeing all this, he immediately runs to the police to report what he discovered. The police investigate and find the man believed to be responsible for the murder, lying on the beach next to a stolen white hoarse. The police bring him here for questioning and discover that he is the great bandit Tajomaru and that he was not unhorsed by his stolen hoarseness as they had thought but had simply drunk bad water and was lying down because he felt sick. As the interrogation continues, Tajomaru admits to the crime of killing the man and tells his side of the story. He states that he was resting in the woods when a man, Takchiro, and a woman, Musago, pass by with hoarse voices as a cool breeze blows. This breeze reveals Musago's face to Tajomaru and he decides he has to have it. In an attempt to win over the women, he tricks Takchiro into thinking there is a tomb full of treasure nearby and Tajomaru offers to sell his possessions to Takchiro cheaply. Takchiro agrees to take a look, but along the way Tajomaru attacks and successfully ties him up. This gives Tajomaru the perfect opportunity to pursue the defenseless wife they left behind. Thus Musago takes out a dagger and fights fiercely with a strong will to keep Tajomaru away from her. Despite his efforts, Tajomaru soon manages to rap it. Then Tajomaru begins to leave when Musago begs for the two men to fight, because she cannot bear to be dishonored by two men. So the men fight and Takchiro is a good fighter but not as good as Tajomaru who kills him in the bush after their swords have crossed 23 times. After this happens, the wife runs away and Tajomaru leaves in a hoarse voice and sells Takchiro's sword for love. After the bandit's testimony, the police listen to Musago's testimony. She starts by saying that after Tajomaru took advantage of her and she couldn't resist any kind of fight because she's too weak. After Musago was raped she went to her husband for comfort and to untie him, but what she found was pure hatred for... means of paper... for stress and confusion. He didn't raise the body in the wilderness issue simply because it didn't fit with the rest of his story. Later, Takchiro lies during his testimony for several reasons. First, he lies to console his wife so he doesn't look like an insensitive idiot. He then lies about not wanting to fight for her because then he realizes it was useless since he lost his life and was dishonored. He also lies about killing himself to make his death more honorable, but in reality he was ashamed that a common bandit defeated him. Finally, the story of the woodcutter is almost exactly right, except for two things. He lies by saying he didn't see the dagger, because he actually stole the dagger and probably pulled it out of the sole. He also lies that he didn't see anything until a few hours after the crime, he doesn't come forward for fear that the police will notice the tampering. with the crime scene and stole the dagger for his personal gain. All the above reasons explain why during interrogations they lied in all their testimonies. In summary, the four eyewitnesses in the movie "Rashomon" distorted reality in their heads to seem like honest and more honorable people..
