Topic > Child Protection - 1743

This assignment will discuss the 'Amie case study' and explore some of the risks she is also exposed to and how they may affect her wellbeing. I will begin by defining what child protection is centered around the legislative framework of the Children Act 2004. I will also look at what abuse is and naming the types of abuse, and establish knowledge and understanding of the assessment framework in the case of Amie. I will also look at multi-professional strategies that can provide help and protect Amie and her siblings according to legal legislation. Safeguarding is the responsibility of everyone and every organization to protect children from harm and promote their well-being (Children Act, 2004). However, the Department for Children, Schools and Families (2013), states that safeguarding and promoting child welfare is a practice aimed at protecting a child from abuse or neglect, whether in a current or future situation, which can prevent harm to their health and well-being and development, also ensures that children grow up in reliable circumstances with the provision of safe and effective care that will enable them to reach the full potential of adult life. Furthermore, it also covers “children in need” under section 17 of the Children Act 1989, which distinguishes them as disabled or vulnerable children who are unable to achieve development in terms of health and well-being, without the provision of services. The Children Act 2004 helps to provide a legal framework for different services so that they can work together to promote the welfare of children. Child abuse is a tragic problem and is defined as a pattern of mistreatment of a child, whereby someone does something to a child that should not be done, which can be physical...... middle of paper . .....wn. According to Velleman and Orford (2001), some parents who use drugs and alcohol can cause significant harm to their children. Caregivers should focus on Amie's needs and protection when accessing this scenario, they should be able to consult each other. The positive outcome in this scenario would be that Amie could continue to live with her mum and be rehoused, and the basis could be established as to how Mr A Newton could be allowed to see Amie and other siblings under supervision at children's social services twice a week to maintain the relationship between father and children, furthermore both parents can be referred to parenting courses to enable better development of the child. skills for their children. Meanwhile, the social worker should ensure that all plans are implemented with a formal support network for Amie's wellbeing and care.
