IntroductionAnxiety is the most common concern for cardiovascular surgery patients every day in the United States. Nurses have problems related to the postoperative care of patients undergoing cardiac surgery. Nursing has a very broad meaning, from promoting good health in society to preventing the occurrence of diseases. In addition, nurses provide counseling and emotional support to patients' families. Being a nurse with the post-cardiac surgery patient requires special training. There are many means of caring for the patient. I will investigate pain management in postoperative care for patients undergoing cardiovascular surgery. One of the most common conditions for cardiovascular surgery patients is anxiety. According to Twiss, Seaver, and McCaffrey (2006) patients begin to experience anxiety when they decide to undergo cardiovascular surgery and may continue to be anxious for up to three months after surgery (p. 224). The patient may be worried about having a stroke or having neurological damage. The problem with anxiety is that it can affect surgical outcomes. Mortality rates from cardiovascular surgery have been lowered. We must produce appropriate methods to help reduce anxiety, reduce the effects of external stimuli and an environment that helps the patient heal. Patients should rate their overall hospital experience positively and write positive comments about pain management. Another concern for patients undergoing cardiovascular surgery is pain. Pain is unpleasant for patients because it will make them feel unsafe and will most likely cause some possible tissue damage. After heart surgery, patients begin to experience pain. Pain levels are generally severe and untreated. The pain will cause the patient to have… half of paper… According to Evans (1997) cited by Nilsson (2009), “The administration of oxytocin has been noted to decrease anger, fatigue, anxiety and pain and that there is a connection between physiology (pain) and behavior (anxiety) interpreted as low levels of oxytocin (p.2159) My predictions for patients who have had massage therapy are that their anxiety levels decrease compared to group that did massage therapy not. “Since massage therapy helps relieve tense muscles and pain, and then it will give us physical relaxation.” The main purpose of massage is that it relaxes the muscle tissue our heart rate as our body enters the parasympathetic division, the relaxed state, while releasing our sympathetic division, the stressful state. This will help nourish our cells while improving our circulation, which will help with waste elimination.
