The following document will discuss the mission, vision, goals and objectives of General Motor (GM), along with General Motors compared and contrasted by management styles with Toyota Corporation which has adopted total quality management (TQM). The paper will discuss the characteristics of Toyota Corporation's TQM with General Motors and the extent to which Toyota Corporation's TQM practices can integrate into General Motors' management practices. In 1968, General Motors became the first automotive company to establish a formal supplier diversity program (GM, 2008 ). GM's mission will remain the same throughout this institution of diversity. “Develop and grow a diverse, competitive, world-class performance-based offering base that will partner with General Motors toward its goal of becoming a market leader in the automotive industry” (GM, 2008). GM is primarily engaged in the production of vehicles. The company designs, manufactures and markets cars, trucks and other automotive components in the North America, Europe, Latin America and Asia-Pacific regions. GM's vision is to become the world leader in transportation products and related services. To achieve this vision, GM recognizes that obstacles will block and address them before GM achieves the goals necessary to achieve this vision (GM, 2008). GM's future success depends on technological innovation, which will enable GM to achieve ambitious goals. GM's management style hasn't always been the best. In order to implement any type of action, GM employees will contact their present manager. From there the complaint or request will reach the top of the chain, to the highest management.
