The term Christian, which literally means little Christ, should clearly express to every believer his or her ultimate goal. Everything a believer says, does, and strives for should be unequivocally in line with the words, actions, and goals of Jesus as he or she strives daily to become more and more like Him. The believer's new identity needs to continually transform his character into that of Christ, and his actions must identify him as a servant of the King.I. Christian CharacterTheological DefinitionThe character of a Christian is multifaceted and extremely important. Outwardly, the character of a Christian is the visible testimony that expresses who Jesus is to the individual and the difference he has made in their life. Therefore it is imperative that the believer represents a correct reflection of God with authentic Christ-like character. Character is not just an external expression. DL Moody said "Character is what you are in the dark." Internally, a growing Christian character identifies a healthy, maturing relationship with Jesus. It is the believer's ongoing sanctification that is evidence of the justification that God bestows on every believer when they accept Christ. It is indeed the process of sanctification that requires diligent and intentional effort on the part of every believer.1 Biblical Foundation The Word of God is a Christian's final authority for every aspect of his or her life, so when it comes to matters of character, you need only look to the Bible (2 Peter 1:3).
